Dear Prospective VGHS Applicant,

Thank you for considering joining our team at Vista Grande High School in Taos, NM. We hope that you find these materials helpful as you discern your possible future working with us. Of course, this information is only a start…please contact us with any questions you may have. Because we are extremely busy, it may take us awhile to get back to you—please be patient with us!

As you review the available information and application materials, certain aspects and expectations may give you pause.

You may find the Job Descriptions and Desired Qualifications of our Faculty to be unusual for typical public schools. This is true, because we have no intention of being a typical public school. We have already been working for more than six years to design VGHS to be the best school it can be. Our school expects its teachers to be comfortable teaching in the classroom and in the field, instructing alone or planning in a team, examining a textbook or designing an integrated project. We expect our teachers to know well the languages and cultures and peoples of northern New Mexico, because this is where we will be planted and whom we will serve.

Overall, our expectations of the school and of the application process are extraordinarily personal, highly demanding, and very focused upon specific types of teaching and curriculum. Our expectations may cause you to draw back, or pause to reflect. If this approach seems too much for you, or not in line with your philosophy, then we thank you for your consideration of our school and wish you the best. If, however, our approach does not discourage you but rather inspires you at the deepest levels of your being, then we encourage you to consider being part of our team. Get those application materials in to us…there’s good work to be done together, and we are eager to get started.

Regards,

The Vista Grande Leadership Team
